I have become a big fan of shock collars. That way you don't have to dig up your yard to plant a wire. This goes on easily and it doesn't take much time to teach your dog to obey your commands. And you really don't need to use the shock unless absolutely necessary.

We have no complaints about the quality or usefulness of these collars, and we consider the price to be well within reason. We only use the "beeper" for our Doberman, and she responds beautifully. Our batteries last two to three days. Using a "shock" function might use up the battery charge much faster -- can't speak to that as a "shock" seems counter-intuitive considering our dog's temperament. Have used these collars for about one and a half years -- the dog still responds to a corrective "beep" the same as she did Day 1, so we are happy with the results we get. Of course, the collar has to be used in coordination with verbal and gestured directions and we use small training treats as rewards, so we see this collar as being one element of our training program, but we've come to see it as an essential element overall. If you need to make corrections at a distance, as we do when our dog is in the backyard or even in another room of the house, this will let you do that. Happy owner, happy dog.
